To transfer the complexity of In Between’s story to the sound was one of our biggest challenges until now. To many people sounds have a straightforward effect. Footsteps in the snow have to sound simply like footsteps in the snow. But these footsteps can affect us quite differently. They may sound heavy, light, wet or dry. Little changes of pitch or bass frequencies can subliminally change the emotions of the main character from happy to sad or angry. Thus the rain or the squeaking of a wheelchair become storytellers and emotional carriers in In Between.
